My own version of a "field recording" in the city of Memphis, i hope to do many more of these.

I recorded this track while standing in line outside the unemployment office at 7:30am Friday March 11, 2011. I titled it "Dandelions" because there happened to be an equal amount of 39 dandelions growing in the grass outside the office building, to the number of citizens standing in line outside the building.

For me, the dandelion represents a potential wish, cause as a child i used to pick them, close my eyes and blow away the fir whilst making a wish. This idea of a "potential wish coming true" resonates to me, and can abstractly reiterate the hopes and potential futures of the unemployed. It's all uncertain; and reliance on the government to fulfill everyone's wishes (specifically in the unemployment line) is far-fetched and near impossible. No matter how early we got there in line before the office doors opened, we all had to wait for hours before anyone even spoke to us.

There is a SERIOUS problem going on, this recession is very real and this experience i had (waited a total of 4 hours, myself) at the unemployment office really opened my eyes.

This track was recorded on my phone, and the sound quality isn't the best because i was trying not to look too obvious while i was secretly recording the conversation of the two men in front of me.
